CLINICAL SERVICES
 |
We offer facilities and expertise for all routine surgery and dentistry, and for
in-depth investigation of complex medical and surgical conditions. Our
hospitalisation wards are secure, warm and comfortable and you are welcome to
visit your pet by arrangement if a stay at the surgery is necessary. |
Our services include:
X - rays
Colour Doppler Ultrasound scanning
ECG
Laboratory testing on the premises with fast results
Cryosurgery
Ultrasonic dental equipment
Cardiology referral in house
- all performed by professionally trained, friendly staff who genuinely care
about your pet. We encourage our vets to develop areas of special interest and
expertise. At present we have several vets studying for additional specialist
qualifications in cardiology, surgery and dermatology. We have ready access to a
range of other referral services for difficult cases if required.
CONSULTATIONS
All consultations are by appointment. We try to keep
as close as possible to the appointment time but some cases take longer that
others and we cannot predict the arrival of emergencies, which inevitably will
cause some delay.
The practice provides a 24 hour emergency service every day throughout the year.
We ask whenever possible that the animal is brought to the main surgery at Frome.
Please phone your normal surgery number initially.
SURGERY HOURS IN FROME, WARMINSTER AND
TROWBRIDGE
MONDAY - FRIDAY - 8.30 to 6.30 pm. Surgeries differ in the appointments
available
Please telephone for an appointment.
SATURDAYS - 8.30 am to 11.30 am
BANK HOLIDAYS AND SUNDAYS
We have no fixed surgery hours on these days but if possible, please telephone
us in the morning if you are concerned about your pet, when we have extra
nursing assistance. Obviously, if your pet becomes suddenly ill or is injured at
any other time, you should still contact us - we provide 24 hour emergency care.
TELEPHONE ADVICE
When asked we try to provide helpful advice over the telephone, but most
clinical problems are better dealt with by bringing your pet to the surgery. For
example, vomiting may be caused by a simple digestive upset which would respond
to withholding food. Alternatively, it could be caused by a liver, pancreatic or
acute gastric problem when any delay in treatment would be critical. It is
better to be safe than sorry.
HOUSE CALLS
We are able to arrange home visits for our patients where
necessary. Usually though treatment is more easily and effectively carried out
at the surgery where the correct equipment and experienced staff are on hand.
This is especially true of most emergencies such as road traffic accidents,
where prompt hospitalisation is essential and can be life saving.

REPEAT PRESCRIPTIONS AND DISPENSING OF MEDICINES
Most drugs used for sick animals are covered by strict legal controls
over their use and can only be prescribed following a clinical examination.
In some cases repeat prescriptions may be given, but only with the consent
of the veterinary surgeon within the practice who has sufficient knowledge
of your animal's history. We must examine the patient at least every six
months and some conditions may require clinical examination much more
frequently. This is done to ensure that the medication is working
satisfactorily and that your pet's health is not deteriorating unnoticed,
and any side effects are checked for and monitored. We request that repeat prescriptions are ordered Monday to Friday.
They can be collected on Saturday morning if required, but please order during
the week if at all possible. |
 |
Other medicines and pet healthcare products are available for ‘over the
counter sales’ to our clients e.g. wormers, flea control products, shampoo,
vitamins and minerals, dental care products, normal and special diet foods, as
long as your pet is under our veterinary care.
FEES
We strive to maintain our fees at a reasonable and affordable
level. Modern veterinary practice is advancing rapidly and today's diagnostic
procedures and available treatments are far in advance of even a few years ago.
It is our aim to keep our facilities up to date, but the necessary expertise and
technology, together with the provisions of a 24 hour service every day of the
year, does cost money. The level of service we provide can only be maintained by
charging a realistic fee. In order to keep administrative costs under control we
must insist that fees are paid at the time of consultation, or in the case of an
animal requiring in-patient treatment, at the time you collect you animal.
Payment may be made by cash, cheque, bank card, `Switch' and most types of
credit card.
In cases of financial hardship, split or deferred payments may be arranged but
this must be discussed with the veterinary surgeon at the time of treatment.
